Abdominal pain after intercourse, often called abdominal pain after sex or post-coital pain, can range from mild cramping to sharper discomfort in the lower stomach or pelvis. Occasional discomfort may result from normal muscle strain, gas, or sensitivity from deep penetration. However, recurring or severe pain isn’t considered normal and could signal underlying health issues such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), ovarian cysts, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, or uterine fibroids. Fibroids, noncancerous uterine growths, can press on organs and nerves during intercourse, causing cramping or post-sex pain.
